The Office of Facilities Services is charged with maintaining, operating, repairing, cleaning, and renovating Barnard College’s academic buildings, residence halls, grounds, and infrastructure. Our primary goal is the creation and maintenance of a physical environment that is conducive to the learning process. Well-maintained and high-quality facilities are vital to the College's mission and help to enrich the experience of our students, faculty, and staff. Staff members of the Office of Facilities Services are committed to providing quality facilities that enhance the campus experience of Barnard College students and contribute to the continued growth of the college community.
About Us
- The Facilities Leadership Team includes Facilities, Capital Projects, and Sustainability; Director of Maintenance & Trades, Director of Custodial Services & Grounds, Director of Facilities Finance & Administration, Sustainability Officer, and associated staff. Facilities Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management work including evaluating, selecting, prioritizing, and strategically planning Barnard’s facilities and systems.
- Maintenance and Trades support the maintenance and repair of the campus and residential buildings. Facilities offer services in the skilled trades:
- Carpentry
- Painting
- Locksmith
- Mason
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- HVAC
- Custodial and Grounds are tasked with the routine cleaning of all classrooms, managing garbage, recycling, and event setup. This division of Facilities also schedules and manages cleaning during the summer and winter months so that the college is kept clean and safe for students, faculty, and staff.
- Capital Projects oversees all construction projects on campus under the Barnard Builds umbrella. Led by the Capital Projects Division, under the leadership of the Executive Director and Project Managers, this team oversees new construction projects, renovations, and major repair and replacement projects for all campus buildings. The Capital Projects team manages outside vendors and consultants, including architects, construction managers, or contractors for major construction projects.
- Facilities Administration is the administrative service unit of Facilities providing leadership and management of the college’s compliance commitments and sustainability goals through Environmental Health and Safety, Procurement, Contract Management, Information Technology and Data analysis.

Emergency Procedures
The Office of Facilities Services considers any event that endangers the life, health, or safety of a person or possible damage to college property as an emergency condition. These conditions may include flooding, water-pipe breakage, steam leaks, an electrical short or exposed wiring, rodent infestation, excessive trash accumulation, and darkened stairwells.
